Shelby County falls to Jemison in extra inning

The Shelby County High School baseball team fell to Jemison 11-10 in the an extra-inning affair in high school baseball action Feb. 24.

Keaton Wood led the Wildcats (0-2) at the plate as he finished with two singles, a double and three RBIs.

Mike Pate finished with a solo homer and two singles. Trey Howard and Jacob Tidmore finished with two singles each. Howard was also hit by a pitch.

Dakota Falkner started on the mound for Shelby County and pitched 3 2/3 innings before giving way to three relievers. Eric Wilcox pitched one inning and took the loss. Tyler Sims and Tidmore also pitched in the loss.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Jemison put two runs on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 4-2.

Pate led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run and Falkner scored later on Logan Berle’s pinch-hit single to push the Shelby County lead to 6-2.

Jemison took the lead with five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Jemison added two runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh inning to push its lead to 10-7.

The Wildcats rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning and scored three runs to tie the game and send it into an extra inning.

Jemison scored one run in the top half of the eighth inning and held the Wildcats scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to seal the win.
