Montevallo women’s golf finishes fourth at Ann Rhoads Invitational

The University of Montevallo women’s golf team finished fourth in team standings at the 2011 Ann Rhoads Invitational at Robert Trent Jones’ Oxmoor Valley after carding a two-round total of 669 strokes.

Montevallo senior Emily Gibson captured the individual championship at the Ann Rhoads Invitational, hosted by Birmingham-Southern College, following her two-day total of 7-over par 151. Gibson carded a 1-over par 73 in the first round Feb. 27 before firing a 6-over par 78 in the final round Feb. 28.

Gibson, the reigning Peach Belt Conference women’s golf tournament individual champion, won two tournaments during the fall 2010 portion of the Falcons’ schedule. The Toronto, Canada native has now won six tournaments during her career at Montevallo.

Freshman Hilary Shaner finished in a two-way tie for 26th overall in individual standings with a two-day score of 29-over par 173 strokes. Freshman Tracey Marshall finished two strokes back with a 31-over par 175, which placed her in a two-way tie for 30th overall in individual standings.

Junior Emma Breen and sophomore Kaylee Hale each finished with a two-day score of 177 strokes, which placed them in a four-way tie for 34th overall in individual standings.

The University of West Florida won the Ann Rhoads Invitational team championship with a score of 648 strokes.
