Thompson sweeps two games in softball tournament

The Thompson High School softball team defeated Catholic-Montgomery and Auburn in its opening games in the Auburn Invitational tournament March 4.

The Warriors (8-3) picked up a 6-1 win over Catholic-Montgomery.

Sarah Beth Holdbrooks led Thompson at the plate as she finished 2-for-2 with a double. Holdbrooks drove in a run and scored a run.

Rachel Rigney went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored. Ashleigh Short finished 1-for-3 and scored a run.

Rigney picked up the win in the circle after giving up one earned run on one hit with 12 strikeouts in a five-inning complete game.

Thompson defeated Auburn 7-1 in the tournament.

Amanda Springer led the Warriors at the plate as she finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Savannah Gossett and Marly Terrell each went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Taylor Powell earned the win in the circle after giving up one earned run without allowing a hit with six strikeouts and four walks in a four-inning complete game.
