Kingwood splits doubleheader in tournament

The Kingwood Christian School baseball team split a doubleheader March 4 at the Prattville Christian Academy tournament.

The Lions fell to Eastwood Christian Academy 5-1 in their first game.

Simms Newell, Madison Webb, Payton Sumrall, Steven Garcia and John Mike Pegusky each had a hit for Kingwood Christian.

Sumrall took the loss on the mound after giving up five runs on four hits and striking out three batters.

Kingwood Christian defeated East Memorial Christian Academy 10-1 in the second game.

The Lions finished with eight hits in the victory.

Garcia, Webb, Newell, Andrew Whitfield, Ben Littrell, Gavin Sumrall and Nick Gentile each recorded hits in the win.

Newell picked up the win on the mound after giving up only one run on one hit with six strikeouts.

Webb finished the Prattville Christian tournament 6-for-10.

Steven Garcia went 5-for-10 in the tournament. Payton Sumrall finished 5-for-8.
