Falcons earn at-large bid to NCAA tournament

For the sixth time in the past eight years, the University of Montevallo men’s basketball team earned a bid to the NCAA Division II men’s basketball tournament.
The Falcons earned an at-large bid to the 2011 NCAA Southeast Region tournament on the Augusta State University campus in Augusta, Ga.
As the No. 6 seed, Montevallo will take on conference rival and No. 3 seed Georgia Southwestern State University on Saturday, March 12. The winner of the Montevallo and Georgia Southwestern contest will play the winner of the No. 2 Lincoln Memorial University-No. 7 Anderson University contest in the semifinals on Sunday, March 13.
The Falcons and Hurricanes have met twice this season with Georgia Southwestern winning both contests. The Hurricanes won 65-55 at Montevallo and 68-55 at home this season.
Montevallo holds a 12-3 record in NCAA regional tournament competition over the past eight years. The Falcons won the South Region tournament in 2006 and 2007 and advanced to the finals of the South Region tournament in 2004 and 2005.
Last season, the Falcons advanced all the way to the championship game as the No. 7 seed in their first ever appearance in the Southeast Region tournament.
