Montevallo defeats Shelby County

The Montevallo High School baseball team defeated Shelby County 14-4 in high school baseball action March 7.

Montavallo started the game with a three-run first inning.

The Bulldogs continued to put the ball in play and Shelby County was plagued by errors. Montevallo took advantage of the opportunities and had a 10-0 lead at the end of the third inning.

The Wildcats showed some life in the top of the fourth inning by scoring three runs on a lead-off single by Trey Howard, an RBI single by Bailey Benton, a reach on an error by Evan McNeal and a two-run single from Mike Pate.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bulldogs scored one run and ended the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs.

Eric Smith led the Bulldogs (3-3) at the plate as he finished 3-for-4 and drove in three runs.

Ethan Staab went 2-for-4 with a double. Staab drove in two runs. Patrick Baugh finished 1-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.

Taylor Burr went 1-for-4. Chase Hamrick finished 1-for-3 with a double.

Trevor Chattam picked up the win on the mound after giving up only one earned run on five hits in five innings.

Pate led Shelby County at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Benton went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Howard and Josh Pennington each finished 1-for-3.

Eric Wilcox took the loss on the mound for Shelby County. Jacob Tidmore pitched two innings in relief.
