Warriors sweep doubleheader in Gulf Shores tournament

The Thompson High School baseball team defeated LAMP of Montgomery and Bearden High School (Tenn.) in the Nike Gulf Coast Classic tournament March 16 in Gulf Shores.

Conner Gill (1-1) led the Thompson to an 11-0 victory over Bearden (Tenn.) in the final pool game. The Warriors finished 4-1 in pool play in the tournament.

Gill pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout and scattered three hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

At the plate, Gill led the Warriors (16-7) as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

The Warriors pounded at 14 hits in the game and scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to seal the victory.

Austin Carter was 2-for-2 with three walks, an RBI and three runs scored. Matt Haskins was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI. Michael Schofield was 1-for-3 with a double, 2 RBIs and a run scored.

Garrett Walters went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Adam McKenzie was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Blake Gruber was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Clayton Jones went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

The Warriors picked up a 10-0 victory over LAMP of Montgomery in their first game March 16.

Skylar Estell (1-0) pitched a complete-game shutout, throwing six scoreless innings and allowing four hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Gus Williford was 1-for-3 with a bases-loaded single that drove in three runs.

Ian Murray finished 1-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Taylor Brian went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Jon Keller drove in two runs. Chad Collum drove in one run.

The Warriors had a successful week at the beach, outscoring their opponents 52-6 in five games. The Warriors pitched four shutouts and only allowed 20 hits and six runs in 30 innings. Thompson finished with 50 hits in the five games and three of the five games were ended early by the 10-run mercy rule.
