Evangel Christian sweeps Hope Christian

The Evangel Christian School baseball team completed a sweep of rival Hope Christian following two victories in a doubleheader March 19.

The Lightning, who are 4-0 against their rivals this season, defeated Hope Christian 12-2 in the opener.

Ben Albright led Evangel Christian (8-0) at the plate as he finished 2-for-4. Albright drove in two runs and scored two runs in the victory.

Brandon Mackey finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Roecker Melick went 2-for-3 and drove in a run. Peter Lau finished 2-for-3 and scored two runs.

Daniel Ellis finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Hayden Brown went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Nate Scott finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Colin Myers went 1-for-4.

Andrew Thompson scored a run in the victory.

Albright picked up the win on the mound after giving up one earned run on two hits with three strikeouts and two walks in four innings. Scott walked one batter in one inning in relief.

Matthew Hyde led Hope Christian (0-10) at the plate as he finished with a double, drove in a run and scored a run.

Tyler Hickman finished with a double and scored a run. Dillon Thompson went 1-for-2.

Hickman took the loss after giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits with two walks in two innings. Hyde gave up two hits in 2 1/3 innings in relief.

Evangel Christian defeated the Eagles 13-3 in the nightcap.

Lau led the Lightning at the plate as he finished 2-for-4 with two doubles. Lau drove in three runs and scored two runs in the victory.

Matthew Earwood finished 1-for-1 and scored a run. Ellis went 1-for-1 and drove in a run. Brown went 1-for-3. Scott finished 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored. Melick finished 1-for-1 and scored a run.

Mackey finished 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Albright went 1-for-1 and scored two runs. Thompson finished 1-for-2 and scored a run.

Philip Foster scored two runs. Josh Letson scored one run.

Five Evangel Christian pitchers went one inning each in the victory.

Scott started on the mound and picked up the win after striking out two batters with two walks.

Letson gave up two earned runs on one hit with a walk in one inning. Melick allowed one earned run and one walk in one inning. Mackey gave up one hit and two walks with one strikeout in one inning. Thompson struck out one batter and issued one walk in one inning.

Hyde led Hope Christian at the plate as he went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Daniel Strenkowski also had a hit. Hickman and Jonathan Ricketts scored one run each.

Thompson took the loss after giving up eight earned runs on five hits with five walks and two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings.

Hyde gave up one hit and struck out three batters in one inning in relief. Kaleb Arnold allowed three earned runs on three hits with a strikeout and two walks in 1 1/3 innings in relief.
