FROM STAFF REPORTS

University of Montevallo men’s cross country head coach Michael Marquardt announced the signing of Nick Fasanello, who will join the Falcons in the fall of 2011.

Fasanello will come to Montevallo after graduating from Fairhope High School this spring.

“We are very excited to add Nick to our young program,” Marquardt said. “He is another guy that loves running and wants to get better. I believe work ethic and the love of our sport is the key to building our brand new program and he fits this mold perfectly. I feel really good about the future of our men’s program with Nick and Zackery Walsh (previous signee) joining our team. I expect Nick and Zackery to come in and challenge for a top-three spot on our team right away.”

Fasanello ran a season’s best time of 16:49 in a 5K race this past cross country season. Fasanello also has a personal record of 10:17 for the 3200-meter run.

Fasanello qualified for the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A cross country championship meet the last three seasons. Fasanello also qualified for the AHSAA Class 6A track and field championship meet in the 3200-meter run during the 2010 season.
