University of Montevallo junior Wes Rich was recently named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Rich, a Pelham High School graduate, had a hand in two of the Falcons’ three victories over North Georgia College and State this past weekend as he picked up a pair of saves.

This is the first Pitcher of the Week award for both Rich and the team this season. Rich made three relief appearances for the Falcons last week, pitching 5 1/3 total innings without allowing a hit and recording two saves.

Rich began with 1 2/3 innings of work against West Alabama, striking out three of the five batters he faced. Rich entered the opener against North Georgia in the ninth inning with a one-run lead, a runner on and nobody out to collect his first save.

Rich pitched the final 2 2/3 innings of the shutout in the series finale to get his second save, striking out one. Rich never allowed a baserunner with no walks or hit batsmen and is now tied for fifth in the Peach Belt Conference with three saves.
