Spain Park sweeps Shades Valley in doubleheader

The Spain Park High School baseball team swept Shades Valley in a doubleheader March 24.

The Jaguars (22-7) defeated Shades Valley 12-0 in the opener.

Paul Angel led Spain Park at the plate as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run and a double. Angel drove in four runs and scored three runs in the victory.

Carter White, who drove in two runs and scored three runs, finished 2-for-5 with a home run. Mikey White, who drove in one run and scored two runs, went 2-for-3 with a double. Nathan Brock finished 2-for-3 with a double and scored three runs.

Alex Close went 2-for-4 and drove in a run. Chris Ellis went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored. Charlie McPherson finished 1-for-4 and drove in two runs. Austin Veteto went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Colton Freeman (4-0) picked up the win on the mound after giving up only one hit in five innings with 10 strikeouts and five walks.

Veteto allowed one hit in one inning in relief. Justin Wadsworth closed out the game with two strikeouts in one inning on the mound.

Spain Park defeated Shades Valley 15-2 in the nightcap.

Close led the Jaguars at the plate as he finished 1-for-2 with a homer. Close drove in three runs and scored one run in the victory.

Mikey White, who drove in one run and scored two runs, finished 1-for-2 with a home run. Carter White, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 2-for-3 with a double at the plate.

Angel finished 1-for-4 with a double and scored two runs. Brandon Marley finished 1-for-1 with a double and scored a run. Ellis went 1-for-3, drove in two runs and scored one run. Marks Abernathy, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, finished 1-for-4 with a double. Paul Hosemann, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 1-for-2. Colton Freeman, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 1-for-3 with a double.

Brock drove in one run and scored two runs. Pinch runner Connor Cocke scored one run.

Hunter Hall (2-0) picked up the win on the mound after giving up two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk in a five-inning complete game.
