HOOVER — The Spain Park High School boys’ soccer team battled rival Hoover for regulation plus a five-minute overtime period before falling 1-0 to the Buccaneers in double overtime in the silver division title match March 26 in the Metro soccer tournament.

The Jaguars seemingly took a 1-0 lead with 9:10 remaining in the opening half. However, a shot by senior striker Chris Wright into a wide-open net was waived off after the game official ruled a Spain Park forward made contact with Hoover goalkeeper.

Neither team scored during the remainder of regulation, which featured Spain Park goalkeeper Spencer Jack making a couple of huge saves down the stretch.

The Bucs had one final chance in regulation with a look at an open net from a few yards in front of the Jaguars’ goal before a Spain Park defender cleared the ball away to send the match into overtime.

Both teams failed to score in the first overtime before Hoover clinched the victory with a goal with 3:51 left in the second overtime period.
