Chelsea will soon have its own Publix supermarket, as a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place April 6 at 6:45 a.m. Chelsea Mayor Earl Niven will attend the ribbon cutting to give his remarks.

The 45,600 square-foot store, located at 501 Chelsea Crossroads, will house 98 associates and will feature traditional grocery, dairy and frozen food departments, according to a press release from the Publix headquarters.

The store will also offer a full-service meat department, a seafood department, a bakery, a full-service deli, a produce department and a full-service pharmacy with drive-through window. The supermarket will regularly be open from 6 a.m.-9 p.m.

“The first 1,000 customers (at the ribbon cutting) will receive a free Publix reusable grocery bag, and flowers will be given to customers as they enter the store while supplies last,” the press release said. “The first 25 customers who purchase $25 or more in groceries will win a free bag of groceries valued at $25.”

In addition to giveaways, the grand opening will offer activities for children from 3-7 p.m., including a magician, balloon artist and caricature artist, the press release said. Customers will be encouraged to register to win prizes throughout the store, including a $100 gift card from Publix, cake, deli platter and fresh products from the meat and produce departments.
