Spain Park sweeps baseball doubleheader

The Spain Park High School baseball team swept Oxford and Hewitt-Trussville in a high school baseball doubleheader April 2.
The Jaguars (26-8) defeated Oxford 10-7 in extra innings.
Mikey White led Spain Park, which scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to clinch the win, at the plate as he finished 3-for-3 with two triples. White drove in three runs and scored three runs in the victory.
Paul Angel went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple and scored three runs. Charlie McPherson finished 2-for-5 and drove in a run.
Chris Ellis and Marks Abernathy finished 1-for-3 and drove in a run each. Colton Freeman, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-4 at the plate. Alex Close drove in two runs and scored one run. Josh Close scored two runs.
Abernathy (6-1) picked up the win on the mound after giving up six earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks in five innings.
Austin Veteto pitched one scoreless inning in relief to pick up his second save of the season. McPherson allowed one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts in two innings in relief.
Spain Park defeated Hewitt-Trussville 11-1 in five innings.
Carter White led the Jaguars at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with a double. White drove in two runs and scored one run in the victory.
McPherson and Nathan Brock finished 2-for-3 and scored two runs each. Angel, who drove in four runs and scored one run, went 1-for-4 at the plate with a home run.
Mikey White went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Alex Close finished 1-for-3 with a double. Veteto, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 1-for-2 at the plate. Ellis and Josh Close, who drove in one run, scored one run each.
Nick Mullens (1-1) earned the win on the mound after giving up one earned run on four hits with three strikeouts in four innings. Hunter Hall pitched one scoreless inning in relief.
