Thompson swept in baseball doubleheader

The Thompson High School baseball team dropped a doubleheader in high school baseball action April 2.

The Warriors (21-9) fell to Prattville 7-5 in the opener.

Prattville scored one run in the top of the first inning before Thompson answered with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game at 1-1.

Austin Carter led off with a walk, Taylor Bria singled him to third base and Ian Murray drove Carter home with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Warriors took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Conner Gill reach on an error and Chad Collum drove him home with a double over the third-base bag.

Prattville scored three runs in top of the fourth inning, aided by two Thompson errors, to take a 4-2 lead.

Thompson answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gill had a lead-off double and Chad Collum drove him home with a double to left field to cut the Prattville lead to 4-3.

After a scoreless fifth inning, the Lions extended their lead to 5-3 with a single run in the top of the sixth inning.

Thompson quickly answered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game at 5-5.

Collum led off with his third double of the day before Michael Schofield entered as a courtesy runner for Collum. Carter singled to advance Schofield to third. Carter stole second and the throw went into center field, allowing Schofield to score. Alex Henderson then drove home Carter with a single to left field.

Prattville scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning and held Thompson scoreless in the bottom of the seventh to take the victory.

Collum led Thompson at the plate as he finished 3-for-3 with two doubles. Collum drove in two runs in the defeat. Murray and Henderson each drove in runs for the Warriors.

Trent Harper started on the mound and gave up two earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in six innings.

Skylar Estell (1-1) took the loss in relief after giving up two earned runs on three hits with one strikeout in one inning.

The Warriors fell to Northview High School of Dothan 10-3 in the nightcap.

Schofield led Thompson at the plate as he finished 2-for-3 with a double and drove in a run.

Murray went 1-for-2 with a double and drove in a run. Estell and Adam McKenzie each finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Gill started on the mound and took the loss after giving up three earned runs with two strikeouts and two walks in 2 2/3 innings.

Henderson gave up just one hit with two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings in relief.

Gus Williford gave up two earned runs on two hits with a strikeout and two walks in two innings. Jake Hester struck out one batter and issued two walks without giving up a hit in one inning in relief.
