The Spain Park High School baseball team completed a sweep of Mountain Brook in Class 6A, Area 12 play April 7 following a 7-0 win over the Spartans.

The Jaguars jumped out to an early lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and didn’t look back.

Chris Ellis led Spain Park (28-8 overall, 3-1 in Class 6A, Area 12) as he finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Ellis drove in three runs and scored one run in the victory.

Mikey White, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 2-for-3 at the plate with a triple. Alex Close finished 1-for-2 with a double and drove in one run.

Austin Veteto went 1-for-3 and drove in one run. Nathan Brock finished 1-for-3 and scored one run. Carter White went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Josh Close and Colton Freeman scored one run each in the victory.

Alex Close (3-2) earned the win on the mound after giving up three hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings. Freeman pitched 2 2/3 hitless and scoreless innings in relief with six strikeouts.
