The Shelby County High School baseball team defeated Sylacauga 4-2 on senior night April 7 in a Class 5A, Area 7 contest.

The Wildcats held the Aggies to two runs on four hits while plating four runs of their own in the victory.

“What a way for (the seniors) to go out,” said Shelby County coach Shane Beasley.

Sylacauga scored first with one run in the first inning and one run in the second inning. After giving up two early runs, Evan McNeal settled in on the mound and shut out Sylacauga the rest of the night.

Trey Howard led off the sixth inning with a single to break up a no-hitter and scored on a single by McNeal to cut the lead to 2-1. Dakota Falker also singled in the inning and the Wildcats had runners on first and second base when Mike Pate walked up to the plate.

Pate came through with a three-run homer over the left-field fence to put the Wildcats up for good.

McNeal, who pitched a complete game, finished off the Aggies in the seventh inning when Howard caught a fly ball for the last out of the game.

Howard, McNeal, Falkner, Pate and Keaton Wood finished with one hit each in the victory.
