Rebels top rival Chargers to claim area title

The Coosa Valley Academy baseball team defeated rival Cornerstone Christian School 16-1 in a one-game playoff April 11 at Central Alabama Community College in Alex City to claim the Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A, Region 2 — Area 1 championship.
John Bullen led the Rebels (31-4) with three hits, including two doubles, and drove in one run in the playoff game.
Stephen Cryer finished with two doubles and drove in two runs. Hunter Winslett had four hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs. Saxon Grimes finished with two hits, including a double.
Myles Varner and Daniel Kennedy drove in one run each in the victory. Jarrod Mims had two hits, including a double, and drove in one run.
Mims also earned the win after giving up one earned run on eight hits with two walks.
Chase Payne led Cornerstone Christian as he finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
Austin Davis went 1-for-1 at the plate. Sterling Reither finished 1-for-2 at the plate. Adrian Young scored one run in the defeat.
Davis took the loss after giving up nine earned runs on 12 hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Hagan Joiner allowed two earned runs on five hits with a strikeout and a walk in relief.
