Montevallo women finish fifth in Peach Belt Championship tournament

The University of Montevallo women’s golf team finished fifth in team standings April 11-12 in the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Championship at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Savannah, Ga.

Montevallo, which carded a team total of 86-over par 662 strokes, finished 52 strokes behind Peach Belt champion UNC-Pembroke.

Senior Emily Gibson, who was recently named the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Year in women’s golf for the second consecutive year, led the Falcons as she finished eighth overall in individual standings.

Gibson fired a two-day total of 13-over par 157, which put her 12 strokes behind tournament winner Katja Dammann of UNC-Pembroke. Gibson shot a 7-over par 79 in the first round April 11 and carded a 6-over par 78 in the final round April 12.

Tracey Marshall of Montevallo finished 20th overall in individual standings with her two-day score of 22-over par 166. Kaylee Hale of Montevallo finished in a two-way tie for 21st overall in individual standings with her score of 24-over par 168.

The Falcons’ Hilary Shaner finished in a two-way tie for 23rd overall in individual standings with a 27-over par 171. Emma Breen rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers with her 36-over par 180, which placed her 26th in individual standings.

Montevallo men finish 10th in Peach Belt Championships

The University of Montevallo men’s golf team finished 10th in team standings April 11-12 in the 2011 Peach Belt Conference Championship at Savannah Quarters Country Club in Savannah, Ga.

The Falcons carded a team total of 88-over par 952, which put them 80 strokes behind tournament winner Flagler College.

Senior Ruwaldt Viljoen led the Falcons and finished in a three-way tie for 34th overall with his 20-over par 236, which put him 25 strokes behind individual champion Joel Dahlenburg of Flagler College.

Aaron Ebert of Montevallo finished in a two-way tie for 37th overall with his 21-over par 237. Mariano Lepori of Montevallo came in 40th overall in individual standings with his 23-over par 239.

Gonzalo Gambertoglio and Joe Haupt rounded out the group of Montevallo golfers as the pair finished in a three-way tie for 47th overall in individual standings. Gambertoglio and Haupt each fired a 29-over par 245.
