Spain Park sweeps Spring Garden on senior day

The Spain Park High School baseball team swept Spring Garden in a doubleheader on senior day April 16.

The Jaguars (32-9) defeated Spring Garden 10-0 in the opener.

Marks Abernathy led Spain Park as he finished 2-for-3 at the plate. Abernathy drove in two runs and scored one run in the victory.

Alex Close, who drove in two runs and scored one run, went 1-for-2 at the plate with a home run. Nathan Brock, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run. Austin Walker finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a double and scored two runs.

Mikey White, who drove in one run and scored one run, went 1-for-2 at the plate. Chris Ellis, who drove in one run and scored one run, finished 1-for-1 at the plate. Charlie McPherson went 1-for-3 at the plate and drove in one run.

Carter White, who had a double, and Dustin Cowart each finished 1-for-1 at the plate. Austin Veteto scored two runs. Paul Angel scored one run.

Ellis (3-1) started for Spain Park and earned the win on the mound after giving up just one hit with four strikeouts in three innings.

Cowart allowed just one hit with a strikeout in one inning in relief. Connor Cocke recorded the final three outs.

Spain Park defeated Spring Garden 19-4 in the nightcap.

Abernathy led the Jaguars at the plate as he finished 4-for-4 with two doubles. Abernathy drove in four runs and scored three runs in the victory.

Carter White, who drove in three runs and scored three runs, finished 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles. Close, who drove in five runs and scored two runs, went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and two doubles. Ellis, who drove in one run and scored three runs, finished 3-for-4 at the plate with a double.

Brock, who drove in two runs and scored two runs, went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple. Charlie McPherson finished 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and scored a run.

Veteto, who drove in one run and scored two runs, finished 1-for-2 at the plate with a double. Walker went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored a run. Paul Hosemann, who drove in two runs and scored one run, finished 1-for-3 at the plate. Pinch runner Colton Freeman scored one run.

Justin Wadsworth started on the mound for Spain Park and earned the win after giving up four earned runs on seven hits with a strikeout and a walk in four innings.

Cocke allowed just one hit in one inning in relief.
