Thompson advances to state tennis tournament

The Thompson High School girls’ tennis team qualified for the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A state tournament following a runner-up finish at a section tournament April 18.
The Warriors, who finished runner-up to Northridge in the section tournament, will participate in the AHSAA Class 6A state tournament April 28-29 in Mobile.
Thompson was represented in three singles’ championship matches and two doubles’ championship matches at the section tournament, with the Warriors capturing one singles’ title and one doubles’ title.
Erin Hutter of Thompson defeated Alison Fridley of Northridge 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles’ championship match.
Laura Harwell and Victoria Killingsworth of Thompson defeated Fridley and Morgan Terry of Northridge 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 2 doubles’ championship match.
Killingsworth fell to Carly Cignetti of Northridge 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 4 singles’ title match. Maci Hendrix of Thompson fell to Kaitlyn Stuart of Northridge 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 5 singles’ championship match.
The Warriors’ Hendrix and Olivia Sorrell fell to Stuart and Cignetti of Northridge 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 3 doubles’ championship match.
Pelham, which didn’t have any players in a singles’ or doubles’ championship match, finished fourth in the section tournament.
