Twelve athletes selected to all-star teams

Twelve Shelby County high school baseball, softball and soccer standouts have been selected to participate in the 15th annual Alabama All-Star Sports Week, which is hosted by the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association and will be held July 11-15 in Montgomery.

Two high school baseball standouts will play in the all-star baseball doubleheader July 11 at Riverwalk Stadium, which is the home of Minor League Baseball’s Montgomery Biscuits.

Spain Park junior Mikey White, who has made a verbal commitment to the University of Alabama, will play shortstop for the North team in the game against the South. Pelham junior Ty Pierce will play in the outfield for the North squad.

Three high school softball standouts will play in the all-star softball doubleheader July 11 at Lagoon Park.

Spain Park junior Erin Hornsby will play infield for the North team. Hornsby will face off against Chelsea junior infielder Allie Luster and Oak Mountain junior outfielder Maddie Ridgeway, who will play for the South squad.

Four girls’ soccer standouts will play for the North team in the all-star soccer contest  July 12 at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex.

Oak Mountain junior midfielder Haley Gerken, Pelham junior midfielder Karsten Hicks, Thompson junior midfielder Alyssa Mayer and Oak Mountain junior forward Bailee Harnett will play for the North team.

Three boys’ soccer standouts will play for the North squad in the all-star soccer contest July 12 at the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex.

Briarwood Christian teammates, junior midfielders Benson Mulvaney and Hunter Smith, will play for the North team. The duo will be joined by Thompson junior forward Jacob Ramsey.

The athletes join Briarwood Christian football standout Caleb Ward, a graduating senior who was selected to participate in the all-star football game July 14 at the Cramton Bowl.
