Kingwood Christian fourth in state meet

The Kingwood Christian School boys’ track and field team finished fourth in the Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 1A championship meet April 21 at Jordan Memorial Stadium in Selma.

The Lions racked up 47.5 team points in the meet.

The Kingwood Christian School girls’ track and field team came in sixth overall in the girls’ team standings with 15 points.

Kingwood Christian senior Ben Littrell captured the Lions’ only individual championship after he won the boys’ discus throw with a toss of 125 feet, 10.5 inches. Littrell, who had a throw of the same distance in the preliminary event, edged second-place finisher Jaevon Walton of Tuscaloosa Academy by more than seven feet.

Littrell finished second overall in individual standings in the boys’ shot put competition with his throw of 42 feet, 11.5 inches.

Kevin Woody of Kingwood Christian finished second overall in individual standings in the boys’ 100-meter dash with his time of 11.40 seconds.

Kingwood Christian freshman Gavin Sumrall finished second overall in individual standings in the boys’ 3200-meter run with his time of 12:08.15. Daniel Fillingim finished second overall in individual standings with his time of 5:13.70 in the boys’ 1600-meter run.

The Lions’ 1600-meter relay team finished fourth overall with a time of 48.04 seconds.

Tabi Dailey led the Kingwood Christian girls’ team with her second-place finish in the girls’ 800-meter run. Dailey came in second overall in individual standings with her time of 2:41.46.
