Pelham captures section tennis title

The Pelham High School boys’ tennis team captured an Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A section tennis tournament championship April 22 at the Pelham Tennis Center.

The Panthers, who racked up 55 points in the section tournament, were represented in five of the six singles’ matches in the tournament.

Jim Flaniken of Pelham defeated Thomas Arnold of Northridge 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles’ title match. Trevor Tucker of Pelham defeated Kennedy Buettner of Northridge 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles’ championship match.

Taylor Honeycutt of Pelham defeated Alex Shealy of Northridge 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles’ title match. Jacob Dolinger of Pelham defeated Dino Sarris of Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles’ title match.

The Panthers’ Peyton Davis fell to Nelson Parson of Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles’ championship match.

Tucker and Flaniken defeated Arnold and Zach Faught of Northridge 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 doubles’ title match. Davis and Honeycutt defeated Buettner and Connor Fridley of Northridge 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the No. 2 doubles’ championship match.

Dolinger and Christian Holly of Pelham defeated Brooks Horsely and Tyler Wakefield of Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 in the No. 3 doubles’ championship match.
