The Briarwood Christian School boys’ golf team finished runner-up at a Class 5A section tournament April 26 at Timberline Golf Club in Calera.

The Lions carded a team score of 305 strokes, which placed them four strokes behind tournament winner Chilton County.

Conner Smith, who led Briarwood Christian with his 2-under par 69, fniinished tied with Tyler Shope of Chelsea as the tournament’s low medalist before winning a one-hole playoff to secure the individual section championship.

Trevor Page fired a 5-over par 76. Banks Nash finished with a 7-over par 78. John Hayden finished with an 82. Brent Gilbert fired an 83.

Briarwood Christian qualified for a sub-state tournament following the runner-up finish at the section tournament. Shope was the lone Chelsea golfer to qualify for the sub-state round.
