Briarwood Christian tops Fort Payne in playoff match

The Briarwood Christian School girls’ soccer team opened its defense of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A championship with a 3-1 win over Fort Payne in a first round match May 3.

Cat Cowen, Madison Pearson and Sarah Drew Mulvaney scored one goal each for the Lions.

Savannah Penny finished with one assist in the victory. Briarwood Christian goalkeeper Anna Handlin recorded two saves in the win.
