Shelby County Schools are helping those affected by recent tornadoes this week by collecting dresses for Pratt City students to attend prom.

All Shelby County Schools are collecting prom dresses to be donated to Jackson-Olin High School, which is scheduled to have their prom this coming Friday night, May 6.  Many of the Jackson-Olin High School students live in Pratt City and have been displaced by last week’s tornadoes.

According to Cindy Wiley, supervisor of guidance and testing for Shelby County Schools, Jackson-Olin already had scheduled their prom for this Friday.  The school wants to continue with plans in order to provide the students some sense of normalcy in an area that lost so much.

“We are trying to help many of those students with donated prom dresses and shoes so that they can have one night away from this tragedy,” Wiley said. “Since it is this Friday night, we would like to be able to give them to the Jackson-Olin students by Thursday.”

Shelby County students willing to donate dresses and shoes can drop them off at any of the Shelby County area high school or at the Shelby County Instructional Services Center building, located at 601 1st Street South, Alabaster.  The Guidance and Testing Department will collect the dresses and deliver them to Jackson-Olin students by Thursday.
