The Thompson High School softball team edged rival Pelham 2-1 in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A, Area 10 softball tournament May 5.

The Warriors overcame a 1-0 deficit with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to clinch the victory. The Panthers scored their lone run in the top of the first inning.

Sarah Beth Holdbrooks provided the game-winning offense for Thompson with her two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Rachel Rigney earned the win in the circle after giving up just one earned run on five hits with eight strikeouts in a complete game.

Heather McGuirk led Pelham at the plate with her solo homer in the top of the first inning.

Becky Fox took the loss after giving up two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts in a complete game.
