Jaguars split playoff doubleheader with Huntsville

The Spain Park High School baseball team split a playoff doubleheader with Huntsville in the quarterfinal round of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A playoffs May 7.
The Jaguars (37-13) defeated Huntsville 10-0 in five innings in the opener before falling 2-1 in the nightcap.
The two teams will meet in the deciding third game of the series May 9 at 6 p.m. in Huntsville.
Mikey White led Spain Park in the opener as he finished 2-for-2 at the plate. White drove in two runs and scored two runs in the victory.
Alex Close finished 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in three runs. Charlie McPherson, who drove in two runs, went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double. Carter White finished 1-for-4 at the plate. Paul Angel went 1-for-2 at the plate and scored three runs.
Chris Ellis, who drove in one run and scored two runs, went 1-for-2 at the plate. Marks Abernathy finished 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in one run. Austin Veteto went 1-for-3 and scored one run. Colton Freeman and Austin Walker scored one run each.
McPherson earned the win on the mound after allowing just three hits with two strikeouts and a walk in a five-inning complete game.
Nathan Brock led the Jaguars in the second game as he finished 2-for-2 at the plate.
McPherson went 1-for-3 at the plate. Alex Close drove in his brother Josh Close for the Jaguars’ lone run in the defeat.
Alex Close started on the mound and gave up just one hit with six strikeouts and a walk in five innings.
Ellis took the loss in defeat after allowing two earned runs on two hits, both homers, in two innings in relief.
