Spain Park girls finish third in state golf tournament

The Spain Park High School girls’ golf team finished third in the Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 6A championship tournament May 9-10 at Robert Trent Jones’ Magnolia Cove course in Mobile.

The Jaguars carded a team total of 60-over par 492 in the two-day tournament, including a 24-over par in the final round.

Lakin Eddy led Spain Park as she finished with a two-round total of 13-over par 158, which placed her in a two-way tie for sixth place in individual standings.

Eddy, an Auburn women’s golf signee who shot a 10-over par 82 in the first round, fired a 3-over par 75 in the final round.

Caroline Gurley finished in a two-way tie for 11th in individual standings with her 18-over par 162. Morgan Natale finished 18th in individual standings with her 29-over par 173. Ashley Gillespie finished 28th in individual standings with her two-day score of 200.

Taylor Casebere of Oak Mountain, playing as an individual, finished eighth in individual standings with her two-day score of 14-over par 158.

Casebere fired a 5-over par 77 in the opening round before carding a 9-over par 83 in the final round.
