Shelby County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Birmingham man and a Wilsonville man May 17 at about 2:30 a.m. for vehicle theft.

Edward Riley III, 18, and Otis Jamar Kidd, 18, are charged with one count each of receiving stolen property in the first degree. Both men are being held in the Shelby County Jail on a bond of $15,000 each, according to a release from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

Riley

Riley and Kidd were stopped by police following a short vehicular pursuit from a gas station to an area near U.S. Highway 280 and Hugh Daniels Drive.

A citizen notified a sheriff’s deputy that a vehicle was being pushed into a local gas station parking lot.

The deputy witnessed four people refuel the vehicle and leave in it. The deputy saw something hanging from the car, stopped the car and, upon checking the license plate, realized the car was stolen.

Kidd

A short vehicular pursuit followed, and when police managed to stop the vehicle off the highway, all four occupants fled on foot.

Although officers caught up with Riley and Kidd, the other two escaped and are believed to have vacated the area.

The stolen vehicle was recovered and impounded. Investigators have no further information on the two missing suspects.
