Fernwood Mitchell Morris, 77, of Haleyville passed away Friday, May 13, 2011, at Haleyville Health Care. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, was a member of Haleyville Freewill Baptist Church, retired from Marshall Durbin, member of VFW, member of Haleyville Masonic Lodge #464, having reached the 33rd Degree, member of the Free State Shrine Club.
His funeral was held on Monday, May 16, 2011, at Pinkard Funeral Home, Haleyville, with Michael Morris speaking and Bro. Billy Robbins officiating. Burial followed at Winston Memorial Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jones Morris; children, Lafern Morris, Thomas W. Morris and Cindy Lawson (Jerome); sisters, Juanita M. “Nita” Whitson and Doris L. Sigona; grandchildren, John “Buddy” Morris, Samantha Morris, Britany Morris, Tanisha Canida (David), Amme Lawson, Erin Morris and Dakota Morris; great-grandchildren, Rylie Morris, Gracie Morris, Aiden Morris, Blake Morris and Caleb Harrison.
He was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Rozella Morris; daughter-in-law, Sonya Morris; son, John Morris; grandson, Mitch Morris; son, Fernwood Morris Jr.; siblings, William H. “Bill” Morris, Wales W. Morris, George D. “Hoot” Morris, Sarah E. “Sis” Connell, Odessa T. Hope, Walter R. “Bootsie” Morris Jr., Robert A. Morris, James H. Morris, John C. Morris and Isaac D. Morris.
