Funeral service for Lucille P. Nicholson, 92, was Friday, May 20, 2011 at 10 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Phillip Hines officiating and Garvice G. Nicholson Jr. performing the reading. Peck Funeral Home directed. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper with a 1:30 p.m. graveside service at the cemetery. Visitation was May 19 from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms. Nicholson died on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at Summerford Nursing Home. She was born on August 8, 1918 in Walker County to O.B. Perkins and Mary Frances Felton Perkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Garvice G. Nicholson, and a granddaughter, Leslie R. Merrell.

She received her bachelor of science degree from Florence State Teachers College, a master’s degree from Peabody College in Nashville and graduated from the School of Medical Record Administration at Emory University in Atlanta and additional studies at Auburn University and the University of Alabama. She taught at Brilliant High School in Marion County, Eva High School, Morgan County High School (not Hartselle High School), Calhoun Community College, Tennessee State University, Florida University in Tallahassee and Wallace State College at Cullman. She retired from Summerford Nursing Home as director over the Medical Records Technology. She was a member of the Hartselle Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons, Charter L. Nicholson Sr. (Carolyn) of Hartselle and Garvice Nicholson Jr. (Gaylin) of Mukilteo, Wash.; one daughter, Nicole N. Raia of Columbiana, seven grandchildren, Kim Raia, Wayne Raia Jr., Cambria N. Bailey (Brad), Charter L. Nicholson Jr., Christal N. Stovall (Phillip), Lauren Nicholson and Susan N. Atchison (Steve); several great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers will be friend at Hartselle Church of Christ.
