Eight home matches highlight Montevallo women’s soccer schedule in 2011

The University of Montevallo women’s soccer team will host eight home matches during the 2011 season, while hitting the road for 10 games, according to the schedule released by the school June 6.

The Falcons open up the season on the road at Tusculum College on Sept. 2 at 3 p.m. in the first meeting between the two programs. Montevallo opens the home portion of its schedule on Sept. 4 at 3 p.m. against the University of West Alabama. West Alabama will be one of two first-year programs the Falcons take on in 2011.

Montevallo’s first Peach Belt Conference contest comes on Sept. 9 at Flagler College. The Falcons are 0-1-1 against Flagler College in NCAA play and fell to the Saints 3-1 last season to open up conference play.

The Falcons’ first conference home match comes on Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. when Montevallo welcomes North Georgia College and State University to town. Montevallo is 1-3-1 against North Georgia in NCAA play and fell 4-0 to the Saints last season.

The Falcons have a 57-37-10 record all-time against their 2011 opponents. Montevallo will be taking on four opponents for the first time, including Tusculum College, the University of West Alabama, Valdosta State University and Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Montevallo lost just two seniors off last season’s squad, which advanced to its fourth-straight postseason appearance under head coach Patricia Hughes.
