FROM STAFF REPORTS

The University of Montevallo men’s soccer team will host seven regular season home matches, while hitting the road for 10 games, during its 2011 season.

The Falcons are the defending Peach Belt Conference tournament champions after capturing Montevallo’s first conference title last season. Montevallo lost just two matches last season and hosted the NCAA Southeast Regional tournament.

The Falcons open up the 2011 season with a pair of home exhibition matches in August.

Montevallo will take on the Birmingham United Soccer Association at 7 p.m Aug. 20. The Falcons will close out the exhibition portion of their schedule with a Purple and Gold match Aug. 27 at 7 p.m.

Montevallo’s first five regular season matches will be on the road.

Montevallo takes on Lees-McRae at 6 p.m. Sept. 1 and will battle Carson-Newman in a neutral-site match Sept. 2 at 1 p.m.

A trip to Flagler College on Sept. 9 will mark the Falcons’ first Peach Belt Conference match, which will also be a rematch of the Peach Belt Conference championship match from last season. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 9.

The Falcons’ first home match will be Sept. 16 at 4:30 p.m. as Montevallo host Christian Brothers University.

The first conference home match for the Falcons comes Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. as Montevallo takes on North Georgia. Montevallo closes out the home schedule Oct. 22 at 3:30 p.m. with a match against UNC-Pembroke.

The Falcons own a 79-44-10 all-time record against their 2011 opponents. Montevallo will be taking on Young Harris College for the first time, but the Falcons’ other 16 opponents are familiar foes.
