A Maylene man was arrested by the Alabaster Police Department June 24 and charged with one count of attempted murder after police said he was involved in a stabbing in Pelham.
Police arrested 45-year-old Oscar Castelan Ramirez, of 344 Shelby County 260 in Maylene, at about 5:25 p.m. after a male victim was stabbed earlier in the day in Jonathan’s Mobile Home Park.
The arrest came after the Pelham Police Department responded to the stabbing call and issued a warrant for Ramirez’ arrest.
After Pelham police issued the warrant, Ramirez turned himself in at the Alabaster Police Department. He was then transported to the Shelby County Jail, where he is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.
According to the Alabaster Police Department arrest report, Ramirez has been arrested in the past.
“The victim was actually the suspect’s brother-in-law,” said Pelham Police Capt. Larry Palmer. “The incident stemmed from a child custody dispute.”
Palmer said the stabbing victim was transported to the hospital after the incident, and is expected to survive.
“He is recovering, and his prognosis looks good,” Palmer said.
