Post 131 team sweeps doubleheaders

The Shirley-Holloway Columbiana Post 131 baseball team swept a doubleheader with Bessemer and Centreville in American Legion baseball action recently.

The Post 131 team swept Bessemer in a doubleheader July 12.

Post 131 defeated Bessemer 7-4 in the opening game of the doubleheader.

Recent Briarwood Christian School graduate Logan Crook, who will play collegiate baseball at the University of Alabama at Huntsville next spring, led the Post 131 team at the plate as he finished 2-for-4 with a triple and a double. Crook drove in four runs in the victory.

Recent Thompson High School graduate Chad Collum finished 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in one run.

Post 131 edged Bessemer 2-1 in the second game in the series.

Thompson High School rising senior Tyler Gamble and former Shelby County High School standout Braten Dill, a rising sophomore at Wallace State Community College in Hanceville, each went 1-for-2 to lead Post 131 at the plate. Gamble and Dill drove in one run each.

Cornerstone Christian School rising senior Austin Davis earned the win on the mound after striking out six batters in six innings.

The Post 131 team defeated Centreville 7-2 in the opening game of a doubleheader July 17.

Crook finished 1-for-3 at the plate with a home run in the series opener. Crook drove in three runs in the victory.

Recent Pelham High School graduate Nick Foster, who will play collegiate baseball at Lawson State Community College next spring, finished 1-for-2 at the plate and drove in a run.

Davis earned the win after striking out five batters.

The Post 131 team defeated Centreville 9-2 in the nightcap.

Recent Thompson High School graduate Matt Haskins led Post 131 at the plate as he finished 3-for-4 with a grand slam homer. Haskins also had two singles in the victory.

Cornerstone Christian School rising senior Auston Wingard finished 2-for-4 at the plate and drove in one run.
