Calera man dies in Saturday shooting

CALERA — A Calera man is dead and police have a suspect in custody following a shooting Saturday afternoon in a neighborhood here.

Calera police responded to a 9-1-1 call of a shooting on Saturday at about 3:15 p.m., said a press release issued by Calera Police Chief Sean Lemley. When officers arrived at the 100 block of Spring Street, they found Charlie Abdullah Shabazz, 27, in the street with gunshot wounds to his head and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police took a suspect into custody, but did not release any information about his identity, pending further investigation.
