James Austin Jackson

Montevallo

James Austin Jackson, age 88, of Montevallo passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2011.

He previously served as deacon of Montevallo First Baptist Church, as a Sunday school teacher and Sunday school secretary, and he served in the Army during WWII.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bierley Jackson; brothers, Olen Jackson and Jud McCoy Jackson; and grandsons, Adam Nix and Phillip Nix.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Nix (Thomas) of Fulton, Miss.; granddaughter, Heather McCormick (Lionel) of Fulton, Miss.; brother, Stoney Jackson (Beth) of Birmingham; sisters, Creola Bierley of Goodwater, Lorene Williams of Springfield, VA, Weston Long of Sylacauga and Eloise Mims (John) of Clanton; and nine nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011, from 5-7 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel Montevallo with Rev. James Long officiating. Burial will follow at Shelby Memory Gardens, Calera.

Serving as pallbearers will be nephews and former Sunday school boys.
