Thompson Intermediate School will be giving its nearly 1,000 students and their parents a chance to start the school year off right Aug. 8-9 during the school’s Meet the Teacher nights.
This year, the school off Alabama 119 in Alabaster will house 19 fourth-grade classrooms and 17 fifth-grade classrooms, which is one of the school’s highest enrollments ever, said TIS Principal Dr. Ke Jones.
To help the kids and their parents get acquainted with their teachers for the upcoming school year, the school will host its Meet the Teacher night on Aug. 8 for fifth-graders and on Aug. 9 fourth-graders.
The event will be held from 4-6 p.m. at the school both nights. Both nights will also serve as the final registration day for their respective grades.
While most schools hold open house nights a few weeks into the school year, Jones said she wanted to give students and parents a head start before classes begin.
“Parents can come in with their children and meet the teacher and hear about how the school year will be composed,” Jones said. “Most teachers will do presentations about the upcoming year.”
Teachers will also give students and parents details about yearlong projects, such as accelerated reading assignments.
