The Shelby County Arts Council will host an open house and student exhibit Thursday evening to kick off the start of its fall programs.
“This is a wonderful time to come and learn about our classes and sign up,” said Susan Gordon, director of arts and education.
Gordon said the SCAC offers a wide variety of art classes including drawing, painting, photography and ceramics, in addition to creative writing and printmaking. The classes range in size from two to 15. Private lessons are also available.
Gordon said the SCAC has partnered with the University of Montevallo’s Community School Music this year.
“We’re now a satellite location for their program,” Gordon said.
Students who enroll in the program will be able to receive private music instruction in Columbiana. Lessons will be provided in piano, guitar voice, violin and viola.
Music and art lessons are available to all ages and skill levels. Prices and start and end times vary for each class.
The arts council is also hosting a membership drive during the open house. New members who sign up during the event receive a $10 gift certificate that is good toward any classes or Shelby County Arts Council T-shirts.
The open house will be held at the Shelby County Arts Council building at 104 Mildred Street in Columbiana Aug. 18 from 4 to 7 p.m.
