Russell Roger Carden, 73, of Shelby died on Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011. He was born Sunday, Jan. 9, 1938, He was the son of the late William and the late Hazel Connell Carden.

Russell was a life-long resident of Shelby, Alabama. He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Korean War from 1958-1962. He was a mason and a constable of Shelby County. He is survived by his daughter, Dana Lynn McNeill; his son, Billy Taylor Carden; granddaughters, Kori and Holli McNeill; sisters, Mildred Stroud (Charles), Jayne Thompson (Lawrence) and Mary Nell Partridge (Donald).

He was predeceased by daughter, Marianne Reed; brother, JW Carden; and sister, Eunice Tamborell.

A memorial service will be held at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Shelby (Spring Creek) at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011. Charter Funeral Home.
