First-year Coosa Valley Academy football coach Bobby Hughes entered a jamboree against Springwood School trying to figure out roles on his team.
A 55-14 loss to Alabama Independent Schools Association Class 2A powerhouse Springwood School was a tough way to learn, but Hughes has a better idea about his team after its season-opening game.
“It was a learning experience,” Hughes said. “We’re still trying to figure out who can play where. We played everybody in the fourth quarter to see what we’ve got.”
Mason Donahoo scored both touchdowns for the Rebels on two kickoff returns in the fourth quarter.
Hughes said he expects a much different result in the Rebels’ season-opener Aug. 26 against Autauga Academy.
“We’ll be fine,” Hughes said. “We’ve got a lot of guys that are inexperienced. We’ve got to have a good week of practice next week.”
