Montevallo players named to preseason all-conference team

The University of Montevallo volleyball team was awarded two players on the preseason All-Peach Belt Conference team, which was announced Aug. 25.

Senior Anna Garrison,  LaVergne, Tenn. native, and sophomore Manyi Ati, a Lawrenceville, Ga. native, were named to the eight-member squad.

Garrison was named Co-Setter of the Year, first team All-Conference and All-Region last season. Garrison is the only setter on the preseason All-Peach Belt Conference team. Ati was named Freshman of the Year, first team All-Conference and All-Region last season.

Garrison, who is returning for her senior season, has the opportunity to crack the Peach Belt Conference’s all-time top 10 for career assists. Garrison now sits in 12th in conference history with 2,769 career assists. Garrison led the conference with 11.31 assists per set last year, with her 1,493 assists the 11th-highest single-season total in league history.

Ati was the recipient of many of those assists as she led the team and finished third in the Peach Belt Conference in kills. Ati was also third in the conference in hitting percentage.

The Falcons, Flagler College and USC-Aiken each had two members on the team, while UNC-Pembroke and Armstrong Atlantic each had one.

The Falcons will open up the season Sept. 2-3 at the Christian Brothers University tournament. The Falcons will face Christian Brothers, the University of West Georgia, Ouachita Baptist University and Henderson State University in the season-opening tournament.
