Alabaster will hold a ceremony at Veterans Park off Alabama 119 on Sept. 9 in memory of those who died during and since the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

The event will begin at 9 a.m. at the veteran’s memorial near the center of the park, and will feature a short ceremony by members of the Alabaster police and fire departments, said Alabaster Mayor David Frings.

“We are coming up on the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, and we decided to put together a memorial ceremony,” Frings said. “I think we would be remiss if we did not remember that day.”

After the ceremony, park visitors will be able to lay flowers or drop off notes at the memorial in remembrance of those who died as a result of the attacks.

“It is our hope that those notes will be maintained at our fire department,” Frings said. “The main thing is that we don’t need to ever forget that day.”
