Lightning pound Wiregrass Christian

The Evangel Christian School football team defeated Wiregrass Christian School of Dothan 65-0 in eight-man football action Sept. 9.

The Lightning scored 37 points in the first quarter and didn’t let up the rest of the game.

Nate Scott and Aaron Walker hooked up twice for passing touchdowns, while Hayden Brown led the Evangel Christian rushing attack with two touchdowns.

Brown put Evangel Christian on the scoreboard first with his 22-yard touchdown run just 20 seconds into the game. Scott and Walker connected on a 37-yard touchdown pass before hooking up again for an 82-yard touchdown to push the Evangel Christian lead to 21-0.

Brown added his second touchdown of the game on a 52-yard run. Following a safety, Josh Flanders scored on a 3-yard touchdown run to cap the scoring in the opening quarter.

Mason Murphy scored on a 26-yard touchdown run for the lone points in the second quarter. Clay O’Neal added a 39-yard touchdown run and Jason Marvin scored on a 2-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Collin Carr capped the scoring for the Lightning with his 2-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The Lightning racked up 281 rushing yards in the victory. Brown finished with three carries for 86 yards. Murphy added 63 rushing yards on six attempts.
