The Alabaster Police Department arrested a 22-year-old Pelham man and charged him with one count of murder after police said he shot and killed an Alabaster man Sept. 6.
Alabaster police officers worked with members of the U.S. Marshal Service Fugitive Task Force to bring 22-year-old Daveon L. Cathey into custody at about 12:50 p.m. on Sept. 10 in the 13000 block of Highway 25 in Calera. Police records list Cathey’s address as 655 Sykes St. in Pelham.
Officers arrested the man without incident, said Alabaster Police Department Deputy Chief Curtis Rigney.
The arrest came four days after 34-year-old Alabaster resident Johnathan Williams was shot and killed at his residence Sept. 6.
The shooting happened at about 10:15 p.m. when police said the suspect shot Williams while he was exiting his vehicle at his residence in the 100 block of 11th Avenue Southeast in Alabaster. Rigney said the shooting likely happened during a robbery.
After Williams was shot, he was transported to UAB Hospital, where he later died.
“Detectives have worked tirelessly investigating this senseless homicide,” Rigney said. “The case is still under investigation, and anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Alabaster Police Department (at 663-7401).”
As of Sept. 12, Cathey was being held in the Shelby County Jail on a $1 million bond.
