Briarwood sweeps Shelby County, Talladega in area matches

The Briarwood Christian School volleyball team swept Shelby County and Talladega in a pair of Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 5A, Area 7 matches Sept. 13.

The Lions (12-11 overall, 3-0 in Class 5A, Area 7) defeated Shelby County 25-16, 25-15, 25-22.

Senior Logan Nasworthy led Briarwood Christian with 13 kills in the victory. Nasworthy also posted seven digs and six service aces in the match.

Freshman Lauren Palmer recorded seven kills, one service ace and two blocks. Senior Carly Cline registered three kills, six digs and one service ace.

Sophomore Kayla Crumpler and freshman Madison Chambers finished with one kill each. Sophomore Hope Donohue finished with seven digs.

Freshman Christie Robertson recorded three digs and one block. Junior Adeline Reiser compiled a team-high 19 assists.

Briarwood Christian defeated host Talladega 25-15, 25-13, 25-8.

Nasworthy led the Lions with 12 kills, 12 service aces and two digs.

Crumpler added four kills, one dig and one block. Junior Lizzie Baumbach contributed three kills, four service aces and three digs. Chambers posted two kills.

Sophomore Georgia Muir-Taylor and freshman Kelly Bemis finished with one kill each. Muir-Taylor also had one dig and one block, while Bemis finished with four digs and a service ace.

Donohue registered four service aces and five digs. Robertson finished with four service aces and a team-high 17 assists.

Cline finished with one dig. Palmer recorded one service ace in the match.
