Montevallo edges Northside to finish undefeated in area play

The Montevallo High School volleyball team bounced back from an early deficit against Northside to clinch an undefeated season in Alabama High School Athletic Association Class 3A, Area 7 regular season play following a 20-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-9 win in its final area match Sept. 27.

The Bulldogs earned the right to host the Class 3A, Area 7 tournament with the victory.

After dropping the first two sets by identical scores, Montevallo got 10 kills and 10 digs from Mallory Anderson in the third game to keep the match alive with a 25-21 win.
The Bulldogs were on the brink of defeat again in the fourth set, trailing 18-20, but got big kills from Anderson and Kathryn Ray. Sarah Hyde also scored two big blocks to help Montevallo to a 25-22 victory.
After trading points early in the fifth and deciding game, Anderson again took control at the net with three kills. Northside self destructed with several service and attack errors, handing Montevallo a 15-9 match-clinching win.
Anderson finished the match with a team-high 24 kills, four service aces and 39 digs. Ray dished out 29 assists and added 33 digs.
Montevallo closes the regular season with three straight road matches before hosting Northside and Hale County in the Class 3A, Area 7 tournament Oct. 10 at Susie DeMent Gymnasium.
