Jag finishes seventh in Jesse Owens Classic

Spain Park High School senior Brandon Hazouri posted a top-10 finish at the Jesse Owens Classic 5K Gold Elite race Oct. 1 at the Indian Mounds Park in Oakville.

Hazouri helped the Jaguars to a 13th-place finish in team standings with his time of 15:50.60, which placed him seventh overall in individual standings.

Teammate Steven Crain, a senior, placed 32nd overall in individual standings with his time of 16:22.43.

Oak Mountain finished 23rd in team standings. Senior Will Hamaker led the Eagles as he finished 89th overall in individual standings with his time of 17:04.72. Teammate Travis Rocha, a junior, came in one spot behind Hamaker in 90th overall with his time of 17:05.01.

Thompson came in 32nd in team standings. Sophomore Michael Johnson led the Warriors with his time of 17:03.53, which placed him 86th overall in individual standings.

Chelsea finished 37th in team standings. Junior Alex Burdette led the Hornets as he finished 245h overall with his time of 18:29.37.

Oak Mountain came in 21st in team standings in the girls’ Gold Elite 5K race.

Freshman Haley Davidson led the Eagles as she finished 48th overall in individual standings with her time of 19:43.52.

Pelham finished 24th in team standings. Eighth-grader Mary Grace Strozier finished 26th in individual standings with her time of 19:08.38.

Thompson came in 33rd in team standings. Sophomore Anna Puckett came in 60th overall in individual standings with her time of 19:55.21.
